At Refugee Empowerment for Sustainable Development in Africa (RESDA), 2024 was a year marked by resilience, innovation, and profound transformation across refugee and host communities in the Kyaka II Refugee Settlement and beyond.

From food security to vocational training, agriculture to early childhood education, our programs reached thousands of individuals—empowering them with the tools and opportunities needed to thrive. This year, we are proud to share the progress made and lives impacted through our 2024 Annual Report.

📌 Highlights of 2024:

  • 356 youth trained and certified in vocational skills
  • 150 vulnerable children educated at our new Early Childhood Development (ECD) center
  • 2,400 households trained and supported in smart agriculture practices
  • 48 piglets sold to reinvest into community livelihood projects
  • 10 saving groups established to promote financial literacy and resilience
  • 368 youth graduated with practical skills in tailoring, hairdressing, motorcycle repair, baking, and more
  • Women’s Empowerment: 232 women trained in tailoring and entrepreneurship, many now running their own businesses
  • Peace through Sports: 12 football teams participated in tournaments promoting unity and social cohesion

🌿 Agriculture & Food Security

Our innovative tower bag gardening and nursery bed systems helped households grow nutritious food sustainably, improving both diet and income. Food assistance supported 250 households with 10 kg of rice and posho for three months while their gardens matured.

📚 Education & Nutrition

The ECD program educated 150 children aged 3-6 with a focus on cognitive development, nutrition, and hygiene. We constructed classrooms, distributed food and clothes, and launched school gardens for long-term food sustainability.

🐖 Piggery Project

Despite losses due to natural disasters, our piggery initiative generated funds for essential community programs and retained breeding stock for future growth.

🛠️ Entrepreneurship & Skills Training

Graduates received both certificates and start-up kits, equipping them to launch small businesses, reduce dependency on aid, and build brighter futures.

👩‍🌾 Training of Trainers (ToT)

1200 households were supported through decentralized farmer groups, trained in modern agricultural techniques, and supplied with tools for successful home gardening.
